Let’s start with a classic spot: the observation decks at Haneda Airport.

Each of Haneda Airport’s three terminals has its own observation deck. Among them, the deck at Terminal 1 is ideal for capturing JAL aircraft.

From this location, you can also photograph planes taking off and landing on Runway A (16R/34L).

On clear days, you can see Mount Fuji in the distance, behind Terminal 3.

This view is especially stunning in winter, when the crisp air makes it even more visible—highly recommended!

Next, let’s take a look at the observation deck in Terminal 2.

From this deck, you’ll primarily be able to photograph ANA aircraft.

On clear days, you can also spot Tokyo Skytree in the background, making for some fantastic shots with departing planes.

The observation deck at Terminal 2 is slightly closer to the aircraft compared to Terminal 1, offering a better view of ground operations, such as staff and vehicles working around the planes.

This closer perspective is one of the unique charms of the Terminal 2 observation deck.

The observation deck at Haneda Airport’s Terminal 3 is a must-visit for those interested in spotting international aircraft and planes operated by overseas airlines.

Since it’s open 24 hours, you can enjoy photographing planes up close even in the middle of the night, making it a rare and unique spot for aviation photography.

Additionally, the view of Tokyo’s night skyline from the deck is stunning, so visiting at night is highly recommended.

This observation deck, which opened in March 2020, features a unique attraction rarely found in Japan: a foot bath.

Located within the Haneda Innovation City complex, it offers a great vantage point for photographing planes departing along the new flight routes.

Here, you can watch aircraft taking off from Runway B as they pass right in front of you, making it an excellent spot for those who want an up-close view of departing planes.

This photography spot, which just opened in April 2024, offers excellent opportunities for capturing aircraft.

During north wind operations, you can photograph planes landing on Runway A, while during south wind operations, you’ll have a close view of planes taking off from the same runway.

Since Runway A is frequently used in both wind conditions, this spot is ideal for those who want to capture a large number of aircraft.

In addition to takeoffs and landings, you can also photograph planes taxiing or parked in front of the hangars.

If you’re looking for shots that differ from the usual observation decks or perimeter locations, this spot is definitely worth a visit.

Next up is Jonanjima Seaside Park, located north of Haneda Airport across the water.

This park features an artificial beach and is a prime spot for photographing planes landing during south wind operations.

The park offers a close-up view of landing aircraft, making it an enjoyable destination even for those without a camera.

Keihinjima

Following Jonanjima Seaside Park, another highly recommended spot is Keihinjima Tsubasa Park.

Located north of Haneda Airport, this park offers excellent views of aircraft landing during south wind operations and taking off during north wind operations.

During the new flight route time slots, planes landing on Runway A pass directly overhead with incredible intensity, offering a more thrilling experience than Jonanjima Seaside Park.

The park is well-equipped with facilities like restrooms, making it a comfortable and enjoyable spot for plane watching.
